How to Prepare Your Home for Thanksgiving

Get your home ready for guests and the festivities of the Thanksgiving holiday with these easy tips:

  • Sweep the front walkway and lay down a Thanksgiving themed welcome mat.
  • Set a wreath on the front door decorated with pumpkins, scarecrow, or turkey.
  • Clean, Declutter, Dust, and Vacuum the interior!
  • Set the table the day before. One less thing to do on Thanksgiving Day!
  • Put red, orange, and brown fall flower arrangements on not only the dining room table, but also on the coffee and end tables.
  • Add artificial leaves and small pumpkins or gourds to your tablecloth along the center of the table.
  • Long stemmed candles on the dining room table add a nice, soft glow and a feeling of warmth.
  • Give thanks!

How to Go Green on Thanksgiving

Here are 9 tips for being environmentally friendly on Turkey Day:

  1. Carpool! The Thanksgiving holiday is a HUGE travel weekend. Maximize your time with family and friends in the car. An additional benefit is the shared cost of gas! Read this article to save on energy costs.
  2. Grab a reusable sack when heading to the grocery store.
  3. Buy products that don’t use a lot of packing and are packaged using recycled materials.
  4. Shop for turkey that is raised without using hormones or antibiotics.
  5. Use silverware, cloth napkins, cloth tablecloths, and plates instead of creating waste with disposal utensils and paper products.
  6. Add food scraps to your compost pile. If you don’t have one, now is a great time to make one!
  7. Recycle!
  8. Fill up reusable containers with leftovers.
  9. Instead of stuffing yourself the day after Thanksgiving, think about donating the leftovers to a shelter for those in need.

Facebook & Social Networking Etiquette

For all those new to ActiveRain or new to social networking in general, as in life there are etiquette rules with your online posting of blogs, adding friends & associates, commenting, etc. Rule #1: Do NOT Spam! Social Networking is just that, networking! When adding a friend or associate include a personal message, such as “The reason I would like to add you to my associates is…” Don’t add associates or friends simply to get your name out there in cyberspace. Add associates with the intention of sharing information or professional services. On Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking sites only add friends with the same intention. Add friends not solely to gain businesss, but rather to share information. Think of the philosophy as “get by giving”. It takes a real estate professional 5 minutes of their time to write a blog article sharing insightful property information. Although the valuable information may not translate into the reader buying or selling a home immediately, the reader might appreciate the information enough to refer a friend, family member, or coworker to the Realtor who demonstrated their knowledge!
